The HayBox Solar-Powered Auto Feeder automatically drops a full feed of hay into a slow feed hay net, at any time of day or night. Just load and go. It is an excellent way to add more feeds to your horse’s day, while simplifying yours.

‍ ‍ Unique features of the solar unit:

• the Solar-Powered HayBox uses energy from the sun to charge an internal battery on the solar panel; this internal battery operates the trap door of the feeder

• the 12V battery back-up operates the unit during low-light and below zero conditions. Battery-life is good as it is used for only 1 minute (to release the trap door latch, and then turn off the timer)

• the 12V battery is easily removed and should be charged indoors

• the HayBox comes with one 12V battery and a battery charger. Extra batteries are readily available at local hardware stores

• placement of the HayBox is critical for successful solar panel operation. Prior to ordering, please ensure you have a location for the HayBox that receives minimum 2 hours of direct sunlight per day. Please ensure that you have the correct spot for this unit, or that you are committed to charging and changing batteries as required

• designed to hold a full meal of hay (or cubes); 1 to 4 flakes from small square hay bales or loose hay up to approximately 8-10 pounds (volume is dependent on the format of hay that you feed)

• timer unit can be programmed for multiple feedings per day (for example, during morning barn chores, the HayBox is loaded and can deliver lunch; then during evening chores, the HayBox is loaded and can deliver a late night meal); the timer is fairly simple to program but we will pre-program it for you to help get you started

• comes with a built-in 60” hay net (1.5” hole size) which can be removed if you prefer to drop hay onto the ground

• is best suited to be hung at a height of five feet (60” tall). The top hook of fence-mounted HayBoxes sits on the top rail of the fence

FENCE RAIL CHECK: Please fill out the required fence rail size form during purchase so that we can send the correct size of top hooks. This is a critical step as HayPal will ship hooks to fit your fence style.

HAY NETS: Please note that if you plan to use your own hay nets, they must be minimum 1” hole-size to fit around the feeder. If your horses are new to hay nets, please use minimum 1.5” nets to start.

The HayBox Battery-Powered Auto Feeder provides a single feed for your horse at any time of day or night.

The feeder is powered by a 12V battery system. It is suitable for fence lines that do not receive sufficient hours of direct sunlight each day. The 12V battery must be charged on a regular basis in a warm (interior) location during cold snaps. Extra batteries are readily available at your nearest hardware store for approx $30 CAD.

The BATTERY POWERED Auto Feeder is $795

• approx 21”wide x 13”deep × 16”tall (designed to hold flakes from small square bales, or loose hay up to approx 6-8 lbs)

• 21 pounds (weight of unfilled HayBox)

• comes with a built-in 60” hay net (1.5” hole size) which can be removed if you prefer to drop hay onto the ground

• is best suited to standard 5’ (60” tall) fences. The top of the HayBox mounts onto the top rail of the fence

• fits standard wood rail fences (2”x6” lumber). If your fence is not 2”x6” rails (ie: steel bars on a metal panel, or 3.5” round rails, or chain link), contact us to request a modified rail system.
