HayBox Auto Feeders

The HayBox Auto Feeder automatically drops hay into a slow feed hay net, at any time of day or night. Just load and go. It is an excellent way to add more feeds to your horse’s day, while simplifying yours.

Four models available:

1. Solar-Powered Rear Load (load hay from outside the fence)
2. Solar-Powered Front Load (load from inside the paddock)
3. Battery-Powered Rear Load (outside)
4. Battery-Powered Front Load (inside)

Why are there four types? Two of the models are solar-powered with battery back-up systems, and two are battery-powered only. The other primary difference is where the hay is loaded from: front-load versus rear-load. The original HayBox was loaded from the rear of the HayBox - the outside of the fence. This enabled us to feed without having to open up a gate or go inside a stall. The Front Load HayBox is hinged to open when you are standing inside the fence or stall, on the horse-side. It was built for customers who wanted to mount the auto feeder to an interior stall wall or don’t have a walking area outside of the fence.

All styles of HayBox Auto Feeders share the following features. Please note that our specifications continue to change as we make improvements to the product:

• designed to hold a full meal of hay (or cubes); up to 4 flakes or 8-10 pounds depending on hay

• comes with a built-in 60” hay net (1.5” hole size) which can be removed if you prefer to drop hay onto the ground or into a bin

• can be programmed for multiple feedings per day. Here is one schedule: Load the HayBox in the morning for lunchtime delivery; load HayBox at dinner time for late night delivery. We can pre-program the timer for you to help get you started.

• interior box size is 21”wide x 16” tall x 13”deep, unit weighs approx 21 pounds (empty)

• exterior surfaces are made from aluminum and food grade plastic that can withstand extreme forces and temperatures ranging from -40 to +45 Celsius

• every model has a 12V removable/rechargeable lithium ion battery with battery charger. The battery is easily removed and should be charged indoors. Back-up batteries are available from most hardware stores for about $30. We recommend keeping an extra battery charged and ready for use.

• Should be hung at a height of five feet (60” tall) to the top of the HayBox ‍

Unique features of the SOLAR unit:

• comes with hooked side rails to mount to exterior fence rails or shelter rails (not intended for use on interior walls - see photos)

• exterior placement of the HayBox is critical for successful solar panel operation. Prior to ordering, please ensure you have a location for the HayBox that receives minimum 2 hours of direct sunlight per day.

• battery back-up operates the unit during low-light and below zero conditions

Unique features of the BATTERY unit:

• comes with flat side rails that can be mounted to walls

• comes with portable hooks should you wish to use the HayBox on a rail fence or shelter
