The HayBox Solar-Powered Auto Feeder
Not at the barn to feed? No problem, let the HayBox feed for you, at any time of day or night.
Introducing the HayBox solar-powered automatic hay feeder. Who is it meant for? The HayBox provides an automated single feed for one horse (or other forage animals) in a paddock. It can be used inside a barn stall providing there is power available.
Feed your horse when you’re not even there: do you work in town and would love to be able to feed lunch? Now you can! The HayBox is also super for insulin-resistant horses who need more frequent meals. The HayBox has been providing lunch and a late night meal to our mares since we began testing in February, 2025.
The HayBox automatically drops hay at any time of day that you choose. Your choice of forage drops into a hay net or, if you prefer, the HayBox can drop hay directly onto the ground or into a bin without a hay net. It is not a grains feeder, though it could work for cubes.
Turn 2 feeds into 4, and reduce labour costs! Here’s how we use the HayBox to simplify feeding. Staff feeds breakfast at 7am to our horses (using Fence Top Feeders) and fills the HayBox with hay that will be released at 11am. Staff feeds dinner at 5pm and fills the HayBox to deliver a 10pm feed. The HayBox can be programmed for multiple feedings in a day.
Tested in Canada to -20 degrees Celsius, the HayBox is solar-powered and can be plugged via USB (type A) into an electrical outlet. Important note: to operate as a solar-powered unit, the feeder must be located in direct sunlight. In our test scenarios, we have had success with as little as 2-3 hours of direct sunlight. Please ensure that you have the correct spot for this unit, or, that you have power available to plug it in.
We are currently taking orders for this product. Please email us PRIOR to purchasing, to discuss details. More information is available in the Product Installation Guide.
The HayBox is approximately 21”wide x 13”deep × 16”tall, and is available with or without a built-in hay net.
The HayBox Auto Feeder by HayPal: CDN $895
with 60” hay net: CDN $960.95
