The Battery-Powered HayBox Auto Feeder provides a single feed for your horse at any time of day or night.

The Battery HayBox is powered by a 12V battery system. It is suitable for fence lines that do not receive sufficient hours of direct sunlight each day. The 12V battery must be charged on a regular basis in a warm (interior) location during cold snaps. Extra batteries are readily available at your nearest hardware store for approx $30 CAD.

approx 21”wide x 13”deep × 16”tall (designed to hold flakes from small square bales, or loose hay up to approx 6-8 lbs)
21 pounds (weight of unfilled HayBox)
comes with a built-in 60” hay net (1.5” hole size) which can be removed if you prefer to drop hay onto the ground
is best suited to standard 5’ (60” tall) fences. The top of the HayBox mounts onto the top rail of the fence
fits standard wood rail fences (2”x6” lumber). If your fence is not 2”x6” rails (ie: steel bars on a metal panel, or 3.5” round rails, or chain link), contact us to request a modified rail system.

Video 1: The HayBox has successfully delivered hay to our post-laminitic mare every night at 10pm since February, 2025, providing the extra feed that she needs for optimum gut health. The HayBox is available with or without a hay net. It can be used with hay, hay cubes and other types of feed.

Video 2: In late November (2025), we popped down to check blankets and found that once again the HayBox had successfully auto-fed our mares. It was great to see the girls enjoying a late night meal. Both of our horses need the extra feed: one had laminitis in 2023, the other is an elderly mare with PPID. Adding this fourth feed has shown improved health in both horses and reduced stress in their humans.
