Pre-Cut Hay Nets for Feeders

from $49.95

Following years of testing every hay net we could source, HayPal decided to work with 100% polyester, knotless nets. We have standard sizes available for purchase: 46”, 60”, 72” and 90”. Each net is approximately 54” circumference. We carry only a 1.5” mesh (the diamond shape in the net is called a ‘mesh’. A mesh is measured from one joint to the adjacent joint).

Why polyester? It absorbs less water than nylon, which keeps the net more flexible over time.

Why 1.5” mesh? We have found it is a good size for the majority of horses. Some horses will not settle with a 1” mesh net. It is too frustrating for them. If your horse is on free feed, you may like a larger mesh (4”), but the purpose of using hay nets is largely to slow down their eating and create a longer period of ‘grazing’. It is healthier for horses to eat continually and a 1.5” net works well.

Why knotless? Nets that have knots at each junction may increase friction in the mouth of the horse. It seems reasonable to assume that potential tooth damage would be reduced in an environment with less surface area contact.

Keep in mind that hay nets are not recommended for horses that wear shoes.

Pre-cut hay net sizes:

  • 46” This is a great size for one generous feed (2-4 flakes).

  • 60” We like this size when used on feeders hanging a little higher on a wall or fence (3-5 flakes)

  • 72” Our Fence Top Feeder can sit quite high, depending on the height of your fence. With the goal of keeping a horse’s head in a downward position while they are eating, this longer net may be the right choice.

  • 90” This is considered a ‘bale-sized’ net and accommodates a standard 45-65lb square bales

HayPal hay nets, when purchased individually, come with a rope around the top of the net and a cord lock fitting.

When purchased with a hay feeder, our hay nets are typically pre-mounted and do not require the rope & lock.

46” hay net = $49.95
60” hay net= $65.95
72” hay net= $77.95
90” hay net= $98.95
